Reception Reading List
We have begun a whole school reading challenge in Penygawsi. Each year group have been given a reading list of books we would like your child to have read by the end of the year. Here is the reading list for Reception. Some of these books you may already have at home. They are all available in the local libraries too. Once you have read one of these books, please can you write a comment in the yellow reading diary and I will keep a checklist in school. The children who have read all of the books by the end of the year will receive a certificate and be entered into a prize draw.
To kick-start the challenge, for our home-school task this week, please can you choose one of the stories to explore together at home.
- Look at the front and back cover. Talk about the blurb.
- Talk about the pictures - What can you see? Who are the characters?
- What is happening? Why?
- How do you think they are feeling?
- What do you think will happen next?
- Was it a happy ending?
- What was your favourite part? Why?
- Can you re-tell or 'read' the story?
Please can you comment in the diary and help your child to draw a smiley, straight or sad face to tell me what they thought of the story? : ) : | : (
