Thank you for attending parents evening. Your comments were all so positive and complimentary I felt very proud of the children and the achievements they have made already in this academic year. It was very kind of you to write down your positive comments on the feedback forms too. Sorry I was unable to post on the blog last week, I was unfortunately ill.
Below is an overview of the work that was covered last week in Week 1 and this weeks work for Week 2.
Week 1.
Language Development:
Read Write Inc- Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Writing holiday news in the style of emergent writing with adult support.
Focus:
Say what they are going to write. Sound out the words.
Writing on the lines. Capital letter, finger spaces and full stop at the end of the sentence.
Handwriting formation of the get ready line and the cursive letters 'o' and 'g.'
Mathematical Development:
Seasons: Autumn, learn the seasons song.
Continue a variety of patterns.
Mathematical Vocabulary... add, count, how many altogether, makes.
Number formation 0, 1 & 2.
Little Big Maths CLIC
Amounts- recognise biggest, smallest, most, least and same.
Counting- Saying numbers. 1-10, 10-20, counting backwards.Reading numbers 1-10, when to count- counting the vegetables, last number is the total. Actual Counting to 10 and 20.
Learn its-My body learn its... I have...Finger double learn it. 1 and 1 is 2, 2 and 2 is 4 etc.
Its nothing new- Pim is counting... counting by saying the number and then the object.
1 car, 10 teddies etc.
Calculation- addition. I can say the next number, I can count on , I know 1 more than, I know when to add some more.
Personal and Social Development:
Circle Time The Little Red Hen... What would be the right thing to do? Discuss the moral and values of sharing and helping others out. How do we share with others and help each other?
Physical Development:
Play to learn shapes in PE.
Knowledge and Understanding of the World.
The Little Red Hen- recap the story.
Bake bread- Identify the changes that happen when dough is exposed to heat (being cooked and describe them.
Draw pictures of their bread before and after it is cooked and write words describing the dough raw and bread cooked under the corresponding images.
Week 2.
This week is Anti Bullying week and our work will focus around the topic.
Its good to be different activity.
LO: To understand that people have different needs,
views, cultures and beliefs, which need to be treated with respect.
To sort
and classify objects using one criterion.
To talk about things from their experience and share information.
Feelings activity.
LO: To use talk to organise, sequence and clarify
thinking, ideas, feelings and events.
To talk about things from their experience and share information.
What is bullying activity.
Snappy the Shark and his Friends Story.
LO: To understand what is right, what is wrong, and
why.
To use talk to organise, sequence and clarify
thinking, ideas, feelings and events.
To exchange ideas in one-to-one and small group discussions.
           
LO: To understand
more about what bullying is.
To understand what we
should do if we are bullied.
To compose and dictate a sentence describing events, experiences and
pictures to communicate meaning.

meaning through pictures and mark making.
In addition to this we are also working on...
Language Development: Read Write Inc- Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Writing weekend news. Consolidation of precursive script entries and letters covered so far. Mathematical Development: Addition number sentences. We have started practising the songs for our Christmas play this year already. You are in for a treat! TRIP We have arranged a trip to see Santa in December. A letter has been sent home last week with more information. Please come and see me if the letter doesn’t get to you. BBC Children In Need
It is quickly approaching that time of year again when we dress up and collect money for an amazing cause. This year's Children in Need Appeal is on Friday 17th November.
At Penygawsi we enjoy raising money for this worthy cause and are extremely excited for this year's event. School Council and I will be busy planning our school activities this week. These activities will include a whole school assembly which the children will lead on the appeal day itself.
This year School Council have decided we will all become spotacularly yellow fundraisers! We have decided to dress up with a yellow or spotty theme. The children can wear anything yellow or spotty. In case you would like some help choosing, School Council have come up with some super ideas if you choose:
If your child does not wish to wear a costume they can come in their pjammas. We ask for £1 donation for wearing non-uniform. The money raised will go towards the Children In Need Appeal and Save The Children (on Christmas Jumper Day we will not be asking for further donations) We will do our very best to let BBC know our final total raised so that it can be displayed on screen during the night's appeal.
Pudsey's Round Pound Countdown is on...
You can no longer spend your old pounds, but we can still collect them and put them to work changing young lives here in the UK.
Millions of round pound coins are still in circulation. Children in Need are challenging the nation to hunt for them in saving jars, piggy banks, coat pockets and down the back of sofas, then put them to good use by donating to the BBC Children in Need! Mrs Rees has found 4 already!!!
So hunt for your last round pounds and donate them to make them count!
There will be a round pound collection jar in Mrs Rees' class as from tomorrow, send your found pounds her way.
More information about the day's activities will follow this week, once we have met and discussed our ideas.
The School Council.
I will post some photographs this week of the work covered last week and of this weeks activities. One last thing...Thank you for the lovely windmills that were sent in as part of the home learning task. They will be proudly displayed on our Little Red Hen Wall in our working room area.
