Home learning this week.

This week the children will have a learning focus based on drawing and mark making.
Please encourage them to complete the sheet below which will be stuck in their learning logs.

Use lots of different mark making implements such as pens, pencils, crayons etc.

Ask them to draw houses, trees, shops etc to complete a village around the road. Let them use their imagination and let them do all the Mark making. They are consolidating the skills they have learnt in class.

The focus is on how they hold a writing/drawing implement. In class we say 'pinch the bottom of the pencil' to encourage them.

See below for a suitable guide and which grips we discourage. We are aiming for acceptable grips for outcome 3 & 4.
Below is a summary of what we are aiming for with drawing and Mark making. We are teaching the children to produce drawings with basic shapes that are interconnected- see Outcome 3 & 4. We don't cap learning and will support a child towards higher outcomes if they show the ability and skills to be able to do so.
The two images above are for reference only and for you to see the important stages of development for this type of task. It's to help you to encourage and support your child in the right direction. I hope you find this information useful.

Thank you so much for the lovely number work from last week. The children thoroughly enjoyed this. I can tell by how enthusiastic they were when we discussed it.
Mrs James.
