The next few weeks

Over the next couple of weeks, as well as completing our Initial Assessment, which gives us an indicator of what skills the children have and what they are ready to learn, we will be completing activities relating to the story 'Handa's Surprise'. Activities will include:

•               Weaving - children will help to weave a basket to put Handa's fruit in. This will help develop their fine motor control.

•               Fruit printing - children will print using fruit to create the fruit in Handa's basket. The children will be encouraged to choose the most suitable colour when printing each fruit and describe the print that the fruit makes.

•               Fruit kebabs - the children will create a fruit pattern on a kebab - they will be encouraged to continue and complete a pattern eg apple, banana, grape, apple, banana, grape.

•               Feely bag - the children will be encouraged to feel different fruits in a bag and predict what fruit they are touching by describing the shape, texture and size of it. When they have discovered what fruit is in the basket, the children will predict what colour they think it is inside. After cutting the fruit open the children will be asked if they want to taste it, before describing tastes, likes and dislikes.

•               Sequencing pictures from the story - the children will be encouraged to re-tell the story using pictures as prompts.

After half term we want to make Christmasy smelly pots. If anyone has any empty jam jars please can you send them in?

We are still looking for Autumn leaves, cones, acorns, or anything else you might find whilst out walking. Please send them in for our Autumn tray.
