Hi Y Garth,
I hope you are all enjoying the lovely sunshine this week. I have been busy in school getting our class ready for you to come back and see us next week.
In our class file on HWB, I have shared a short video tour of our classroom, which shows you what it will look like and explains how everything will work when you come in for your 'bubble' day. The file is called 'virtual tour of our classroom'.
You should have recieved a text today with your child's allocated day for the next 3 weeks. If you have not recieved a text, please let me know via email ASAP. DollmanN1@hwbmail.net
We are all ready to go and I can't wait to see you! I will update the blog on Friday with a few notes on what you will need to bring.
Enjoy the rest of the week.

Bore da Y Garth,
I hope you all enjoyed well-being week. It was great to see all the fantastic things you got up to and most of all, lots and lots of happy smiles, which was what it was all about!
We will continue with our home-learning activities this week. But first, let's begin with our 'guess who' game. Thank you so much for your photos. I absolutely love all of your disguises, they really made me smile and I know they will make you smile too : ) I know your friends are going to have fun trying to guess who they are. I will share the disguise photos today and then I will reveal who they are on Friday. How many will you guess correctly?

Task 1: Thank You card/poster
Continuing with our focus on 'people who help us'. Talk about the term 'key workers'. Who are they? Why are they special? What have they done to help us during the lockdown period?
Task 2: Measuring length/height
This week, we are going to look at measuring length and height. Can you make direct comparisons between the sizes? Practise to use these words when you are measuring: Shortest, shorter than, smallest, smaller than, tallest, taller than, longest/ longer than, biggest/bigger than
Remember to start from the same point when you measure.

Task 1: Thank You card/poster
Continuing with our focus on 'people who help us'. Talk about the term 'key workers'. Who are they? Why are they special? What have they done to help us during the lockdown period?
- Choose a key worker. It may somebody in your family or someone you see every day/week e.g. the postman/lady. Can you make a thank you card that you could give/send to them? What will you write inside? Recap what you need to include inside a card - To, a simple message, from, your name.
- You could make a poster to put up in your window.
Here are some ideas to explore:
- Measure your family - who is the tallest? Who is the shortest? Can you put your family in order of size? Take a photo or draw and label them.
- Choose some of your toys to measure. Put them in order of size. Shortest to longest or try longest to shortest. Look at the shortest/longest toy, can you find something even shorter/longer?
- Collect, measure, order some natural materials when you go our for your daily walk e.g sticks, flowers, leaves, stones.
- Build some lego towers, but each tower has to be a different height - can you put them in order of height? Take 3 bricks from one of the towers - where would you put that tower now?
- Collect some straws and cut them to different sizes Can you put them in order? Cut a straw to make it shorter etc.
- Have a go at this game on Top Marks
- I have added some measuring sheets in our shared HWB folder.
The weather forecast looks great for this week - lots of sunshine is on the way. Sunshine is great for making shadows. Can you become a shadow detective? Make sure you stay safe when out in the sun!
- Look closely at your shadow - which parts of your body can you see? Which parts can't you see?
- Can you make your shadow disappear/get smaller/bigger?
- Draw around your shadow using chalk - can you add your features? - hair, eyes, nose etc.
- Play shadow tag with your family. Can you catch their shadow?
- Can you make the letters of the alphabet? You may need another person to help you.
- Make a shadow hand puppet
- Go for a shadow walk Jump on every shadow you pass.
Task 4: Make a lockdown memory keepsake
As lockdown is slowly starting to ease, let's remember this special time we have spent together at home with a lovely keepsake. There have been so many great ideas I have seen over the weeks, here are some of my favourites:
Salt dough handprints
Make a scrap book / photo album
Make a time-capsule
I have shared some sheets you could complete to go inside your time capsule in our shared HWB file.
Task 5: Returning to school
Lots of us will be returning to school next week. It is optional and a decision to make with your family. For those who are, I have added a well-being worksheet for you to complete together. This will help me to understand how you are feeling and support you with any worries you may have. It will also help us to catch up and find out all about your time spent learning at home. If you are unable to print it, you could answer the questions in your home-learning book. This is what it looks like:

RECAP: Over the next few weeks, we will be going back through all the questions and words we have learned this year in Reception.
Let's recap our colours this week:
Pa liw ydy hwn? What colour is this?
- Practise asking the question and naming the colours whilst completing the different tasks this week.
- Sort you toys into colours - use post it notes to label them with the Welsh colour words.
- Can you read: Balwns Beni Bwni?

- Practise singing 'Lliwiau'r Enfys'.
Have a lovely week. As always, I am only an email away if you have any questions or need any help. I will post my new story on Wednesday and the answers to the 'guess who' game on Friday.

Well-being week
Bore da Y Garth,
This week is well-being week at Penygawsi.
The main part of the week will see us taking part in a special "Bluebirds from Home Festival" that has been prepared by our partners at Cardiff City FC Foundation.
They have put together some great resources which I have shared with you via our class shared HWB file. There are suggested literacy, numeracy, PSE and physical activities for each day and to end the week, there are some ideas for you to hold your very own sports day on Friday.
Please see the main blog page for further information about the festival from Mr.Ball.
Wellbeing activities
As it is a well-being week their will be no additional maths and literacy activities. Mrs.Hawkes and Miss Vowles have very kindly put together a pack of well-being activities for the week. There are 5 altogether, one for each day. There's also a lovely story called 'The Knot' which I have shared with you on HWB.
Activity 1
Design and create your own worry monster or worry doll. You can use junk and recycled items to make it. If don’t have access to any resources then they could just design one on paper or J2E.
Activity 2
Create a jar to put ideas of ‘Things to look forward to’. You can work as a family to do this. Think of a label that
suits you and your family. E.g. ‘Happy Future’. What things will you be looking forward to the most after lockdown?
Activity 3
Film yourself doing your favourite dance, skill or trick. Upload them to your J2E folder.
PLEASE DO NOT USE TIK TOK FOR THIS ACTIVITY. IT IS NOT SUITABLE FOR OUR AGED CHILDREN AS YOU MUST BE 13 TO USE IT.

Activity 4
Create a ‘Calm Bottle’ or ‘Lava
Lamp’ Here is a set of
instructions to help you or can you find your own:
1. Add warm water to
your jar or bottle until it reaches around a third of the way up.
2. Add the glitter
glue and stir until it combined with the water.
3. Add around 3 drops of food colouring and stir.
4. Pour in the
glitter!
5.Top up your jar with the rest of the warm water, until it is almost full.
Activity 5
Make a den. This could be
indoors or outdoors. Objects you can
use could include sticks, bed
sheets, chairs, stones, blankets, tables, or anything else you might have to
hand that would be den worthy material. Maybe you could have a tea party or a picnic in your den once it is finished!
7 Day Photo Challenge
Can you take a picture of a...
Monday – Smile
Tuesday
– Favourite food
Wednesday
– Family member
Thursday
– Something that grows
Friday –
The weather
Saturday
– Something that makes you proud
Sunday –
Something calming
You could make a collage at the end of the week with your 7 photos. I look forward to seeing them : )
Whilst there is an activity for every day, as we've said before, only do what you can. Maybe look through them together and plan what they would like to have a go at.
In addition to this, we have been asked to set our own class challenge.
Mrs.Dollman's challenge
(There is a video on HWB for the children to watch)
Guess Who
We have been away from school for such a long time now, it is understandable that we are all missing our friends and teachers. So I thought we could play a little game for our well-being challenge.
Please can you take a photo of yourself in disguise? You could wear a costume, a mask, a silly wig or hat or maybe some funny glasses.
Ask your Mum or Dad to take a photo of you and upload it to your HWB file. Please can you also take and upload a photo of you without your disguise?
We will be using the photos to play a game of 'guess who' on our blog next week. The teachers in Y Garth will also be joining in and I look forward to seeing and sharing your pictures.
I will be calling the remaining families on Monday (today). Remember it will be from a witheld number and if you have changed your contact details, please let the office know.
As part of the well-being week, we'd like to see everyone posting photos of their work and activities on our school Twitter page throughout the week, tagging the school @PenygawsiPri using the hastag #wellbeingweek2020.
Also our partners at Cardiff City would be very grateful if you could tag them in your posts @CCFC_Foundation using the hashtag #BluebirdsFromHome.
Have a fun week : )
