Wythnos 5

We are moving in to our last week before half term and I'd like to say a big thank you and well done for all of your hard work and support through this very different and challenging time.

Learning from home is very different to school and we are all working in different situations and circumstances. Remember, the activities I post are suggestions. Make it work for you and only do what you can. If you are unable to access the worksheets via the links on the blog, they are also available in the 'shared files' in j2e. The folder is called 'WEEK 5 WORK'. As always, I am here to offer support and if you need any help or have any questions, please email me : DollmanN1@Hwbmail.net

Please continue to work on the key literacy and numeracy skills:
  • Reading sounds and high frequency words by sight
  • Building/blending simple words
  • Pencil control/Letter formation (including writing your name) and spelling simple words including HFW
  • Reading and sharing stories and other reading materials such as comics, non-fiction books etc.
  • Counting in different steps and counting objects slowly and accurately
  • Reading and writing numbers up to 10/20 and beyond.

Task 1  - Tell me about your favorite superhero
What are they called? Describe what they look like - what do they wear? What are their superpowers? Do they work alone? Are the part of a team or maybe have a sidekick?
You could:
  • Draw a picture and write some simple sentences.
  • Remember to say each word slowly and write the sounds you hear
  • Use a finger space between each word
  • Add a full stop at the end.
  • Use your tricky word fish to help you spell the HFW you know.

                                     or
  • Dress up as your favourite superhero. If you don't have a costume, you could get creative with some of your clothes or other fancy dress. Take a photo or record a short video to tell me about it.
Task 2:  Let's explore 3D shapes

This week, we will be looking at 3D shapes.
  • Do you know the names of these 3D shapes? Can you learn them? Start with cube , cuboid, sphere, then look at cone and the other shapes.

  • Talk about them - how are they different to 2D shapes?
2D shapes are flat and 3D shapes are blown up shapes and are solid.

2D shapes have sides and corners whereas 3D shapes have faces, edges and vertices (they will look at this in greater detail later in the Foundation Phase).

  • Go on a 3D shape hunt  - in and outside your house and/or when you go out for a walk. Take photos or keep a tally of what you find.
  • You could create a pictogram to show how many you found. I have created one you could use and have put it into the shared files on HWB:

  • Can you make a 3D shape? If you have any 3D construction or building blocks, could you build a 3D shape or model?
  • Can you sort 3D shapes?
Task 3: Make a healthy snack/meal

As we have been learning all about healthy foods, this week you could make a healthy meal or snack like fruit kebabs. This was Dylan M's great idea. I have shared some recipe ideas in the shared folder, but feel free to create you own : ) Remember to do this safely with a grown up and take a photo of what you make.

You could write a list of the ingredients you used or write some simple instructions to tell me how to make it.

I understand that this activity make take some time and preparation, maybe try it over half term if you have already completed your shop for the week.
I look forward to seeing your creations : )

Task 4: Design/create your own superhero mask

You could use these templates or design your own.

Paper plate mask

Dough Disco
Miss Key has recorded a dough disco session for you this week. I have put it in the shared files section.

Daily Mindful Challenge
It was great to see so many of you try this last week. Noah and Charlie loved it too : ) Here is a new one to try this week:

Cymraeg
This half term, we have practised  Y Tywydd (the weather) and Dillad (clothing). Can you recap the phrases and vocabulary you have learned?
  • Visit the Astroantics website and explore the different acitivities. You can listen to a story or a song and practise lots of other familiar words and phrases that we have learned this year such as:
  • Pwy wyt ti? What is your name?
  • Sut wyt ti? How are you feeling?
  • Lliwiau Colours
  • Rhifau Numbers
  • Ga i...? Can I have...
Well-being phone calls
It was lovely to speak to some of you and also the children last week and I have recieved some lovely feedback. I will be calling another group this week. Just a reminder, the call will be on Wednesday and will be from a witheld number.
Have a lovely week, stay safe and keep smiling : )
