Reading in Reception

On Friday, your child brought home a reading bag. Inside was a letter explaining the different stages of reading in Reception and included all the relevant resources to support your child. Please can you make sure reading bags and diaries are brought to school everyday as we will be using them during our guided reading sessions. Home-learning tasks will be completed in red learning log books, which we will put inside the reading bags on a Wednesday.

Our story focus this week is 'The Three Little Pigs'.

We are still in the process of completing the Compact Profile assessments which will be based around the story. This week our focus is:

• Language: Exploring fairy tale stories in different formats - picture books, interactive books and on-screen texts -  Handling books as a reader, making meaning from pictures, holding books the correct way and turning the pages. 
• Expressive language - Look at and discuss the different features of our houses - Can you tell me about your house?
  
• Maths: Sorting the front doors - Reading and ordering numbers. Find and match the missing numbers. 
• Recognising, copying and making patterns for the pigs houses using bricks, sticks and straws.
• PSE: Welly Wednesday - Work with your group to collect different sized sticks. Can you make a new stick house for Mr.Pig together with a friend?
• Changing for PE - performing care routines independently.
• Physical: Co-ordinated movement - exploring different ways of travelling around the 'forest', changing direction, jumping and landing. 
• Drawing - Draw a picture of your house and your family.
