Week 3 & 4 Spring Term.

Over the next few weeks we will be learning all about Chinese New Year. Here are some of the activities we will be doing over the next two weeks.

The Year of the Pig.

CBeebies tells us all about Chinese New Year Celebrations.

Here are some of the things we will be doing this week...

Language, Literacy and Communication.
1. Handwriting formation: the letter m- Maisy Mountain Mountain.
2. Read Write Inc groups on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
3. Writing weekly news and accompanying illustration.
4. Listen to the Story 'The Great Race' and discuss the story, freeze frame the parts.
Welsh Language. Helpwr Heddiw daily.
Activity Read the story Beth syn bod? Play beth syn bod tedi Twyt?


Mathematical and Numeracy.
1. Formation of the number 12 and write and read the numeral word twelve.
2. Adding two sets of Chinese objects and writing a number sentence. 
3. Sequencing the story of 'The Great Race' freeze frames from our language activity and adding ordinal numbers.
4. Investigating directional language- outdoors.

Humanities.
1. Where in the world is China? Look at globes and maps and locate China and Wales. Draw the shapes of the countries and write the countries names inside it.
2. Investigate the landscape of China and Wales by looking at images of the landscapes. Discuss and sort the similarities and differences using hoops.
3. Look at the different types of houses that people live in and name them- PLEASE SEND IN A PHOTOGRAPH OF YOUR HOUSE THIS WEEK TO BE USED FOR ACTIVITY AND DISPLAY.


Expressive Arts:
1. Look at a Chinese Dragon Dance and discuss all the aspects involved- music, dance, costumes etc.
Dragon Dance.

2. Listen to traditional Chinese music and discuss what they can hear. How is it similar or different to popular music today? 
Using instruments make a Dragon stomp- study beat and count up to 4 beats as a dragon moves. Record what they have done. 
3. Chinese New Year Crafts:Make a Chinese Lantern, Ribbon Garlands, red envelopes.


Health and Well-being.
1. Childrens' Right's Respecting Charter/promises. Discuss the Right's Respecting School powerpoint- What are our rights and responsibilities in school? What do you promise to do. Complete a rights respecting speech bubble to accompany a photo of themselves. 
2. Chinese New Year traditions, stories and activities. 
3. Weekly RE: Noah's ark- Learn the song "God told Noah to build a boat.'


Science and Technology.
1. Using an online game order and sequence numbers with a partner.

2. In Enhanced tasks use bee bots to consolidate directional language.

3. Make stir fry, observe the changes to the food. Discuss healthy foods and why we need them. 

Home Learning for the next two weeks.

Make your way through the home learning tasks over the next two weeks and bring them in to school on
Friday 8th of February 2019.

Please ensure that the children are consolidating their sound knowledge and working on their yellow High Frequency words also. If you need Yellow words please ask a member of staff.

Polite reminder...

Snack Money is £14 for this half term, please can all the children bring in a PE kit and if they wish black daps for use in the hall. We will be going outdoors this week and the children will need a warm coat and wellies in school.
