Welcome to Y
Garth.
We
hope you have had an enjoyable Christmas holiday and a Happy New Year. Thank
you for your generous gifts and wishes.
We
have a busy Spring Term ahead of us and will be working very hard from the
first week. This first half term will focus on learning skills that can be used
independently for the second half of the term. We have a theme that is
focussing on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) work and
skills.
A
polite reminder that snack costs £2.00 every week and we ask for a contribution
of £14.00 for the first half term. We will continue to post all the class
information on our Y Garth blog page and we will send you texts messages as
necessary. If you need to discuss anything with us, then please come and see us
or ring our school secretary and make an appointment.

TERM’S THEME/TOPIC
Our theme this term is Love Where
You Live- Bro-garwyr Trad Mad- A STEM based theme for the whole of the term.
With emphasis on the children planning, devising and making something in the
second half term by using the skills and knowledge acquired in the first half
term.
Expressive Arts: Range: experience art, craft, design, music and
dance from Wales and other cultures, be involved in activities that allow them
to work as individuals and in groups, use a wide range of resources and
stimuli, experience traditions and celebrations of different cultures.
Science and
Technology: Range: Investigate indoor, outdoor learning environments, as well as
including natural conditions as they arise. Work on their own, in pairs and
small groups. Investigate how places change. Recognise how people’s actions can
improve or damage the environment. Observe differences between animals and
plants, different animals and different plants in order to group them. Identify
some animals and plants that live in the outdoor environment. Develop an
awareness, and be able to distinguish between, made and natural materials. IT
Range: Explore a wide range
of stimuli, engage with resources from a variety of contexts including
interactive forms, work on their own and in pairs and small groups.
Humanities: Range: work on their own and in
pairs and small groups, learn about where their locality is, begin to recognise
differences between their own locality, localities in other parts of Wales and
in different parts of the world, use atlases and globes.
Health and
Well-being: PSE Range:
activities that allow them to use their senses, to be creative and
imaginative, activities that allow them to communicate their ideas, values and
beliefs about themselves, others and the world activities that allow them to
feel safe and secure and feel that they are valued. Physical
Development Range: exploring and investigating their
indoor and outdoor learning environments developing their gross and fine motor
skills through their practical activities and use of varied tools, equipment
and apparatus, including ICT being involved in physical activities that allow
them to work as individuals, with a partner and in small groups, sharing ideas
and helping each other to improve their work.
Languages.
Range: write through a range of planned
activities and those that are child initiated, write independently and
collaboratively, in response to a variety of stimuli including: – simple
creative pieces – factual information – short passages that express an opinion,
e.g. ‘Rwy’n hoffi…’ hear lively readings from a variety of sources, read and
respond to imaginative material, as appropriate, which should include:– prose
and poetry for young children– stories, poems and chants containing patterned
and predictable language– work written for learners– information resources,
participate as individuals, pairs and in differently sized groups,
talk/communicate for a variety of purposes including: joining in with simple
rhymes and stories, reciting or singing Welsh poems, songs and raps, asking and

Range:
experience a language-rich environment that
immerses them in the spoken and written word, practise, develop and refine

and through all Areas of Learning, express themselves creatively and
imaginatively, experience and use a range of media and stimuli including
emerging technologies, access and share a variety of non-fiction texts, stories
and traditional tales from Wales and around the world including those written
by significant authors, mark make or write in a range of genres, communicate in
a range of contexts for a variety of purposes and audiences.
Fact files – feature of, fact files about
themselves, homes, interpreting illustrations, pictures and data, News, RWI,
writing workshop World Book Day.
NUMERACY
Range: experience a mathematically-rich environment
that allows them to explore and develop mathematical concepts and language,
develop practical mathematical skills in a range of contexts, communicate in a
range of mathematical contexts for a variety of purposes and audiences,
practise, develop and refine their mathematical skills within all aspects of
provision, including continuous provision, and through all Areas of Learning,
experience and use a range of media and stimuli including emerging
technologies, understand and use a range of measures and recognise and use
shapes within play and structured activities.
Maths Activities.
Reading numbers, adding, subtracting, length
and height, 3D shape, data handling (tally and pictogram). CLIC Maths. SAFE
Maths.
HOW YOU CAN HELP US TO HELP YOUR CHILD.
PE
Your child will need a labelled
pair of navy shorts and a white t shirt for their kit. PE kits can be left in
school for half a term in a labelled drawstring bag to avoid forgetting kit.
Black daps/plimsole shoes can be used for PE lessons in the hall.
