Our aim this week is to complete all the baseline assessments and really get to work on our theme based work next week. The first half term in Reception is all about getting assessment information for the children's baseline scores.
This week we are working on:
Continuing the assessment of...
Language Development:
Choose reading materials including books, understanding print conventions. Demonstrate an awareness of fiction and non fiction books.
RWInc will take place on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
Guided Reading sessions everyday.
Mathematical Development:
Recognise and repeat patterns of up to three, visually and aurally.
Identify the pattern game. Follow a pattern and repeat it in beads/pegs and paint. Listen to the teacher say a pattern and make it. Patterns of colour and shape.
Daily Mental Maths sessions.
Personal and Social Development:
Begin to recognise appropriate behaviour for different situations, often modelled on the standards of an adult.
Play the game... how would you behave in a ....? Show me.
Demonstrate the ability to:
Respond to others with increasing sensitivity to their needs.
Looking after Teddy.
Teddy has fallen over. What would you do?
Teddy is hungry. What would you do?
Teddy is upset. What would you do?
Physical Development:
Play to learn shapes in PE. Running and Jumping
Home Learning.
Print the image below (click on it and press print) or draw one out on a piece of A4 paper. Encourage your child to decorate the bunting flag with one Castle themed image e.g. Castle, Dragons, Queen, King, Princess, Prince, Knight, Shield and sword etc.
Please ensure that the work is theirs (no matter what it looks like) and that they fill the whole space. Use any medium such as paint/pastel/felt pens/pencils so that it looks bright and bold. This work will help to make our role play are bright and cheerful and full of the childrens' work. Please can all flags be brought in by the 16th of October 2017.
Parent Reading Workshop.
Tuesday 10th of October 2017 is the next parent/guardian reading workshop which starts at 5:00pm. Lots of people have asked to attend this. Please see me if you are interested.


Cardiff Castle.
We have some great photos from our school trip to Cardiff Castle last week. I will post them this week for you to see. Our trip was certainly a big hit with the children. They have talked about it in great detail! The trip will influence our work over the next few weeks once all the assessments are completed. We can't wait!
