(We Love Reading at Penygawsi!)
That time of year has nearly arrived where we enjoy celebrating our love of books and reading! On Thursday the 3rd of March we will be celebrating World Book Day at our school.
The children are invited to dress up for the day and we have decided on characters from books from 2 very famous authors. The Foundation Phase children are invited to dress as a character from a Julia Donaldson book and KS2 children are invited come as a character from a David Walliams book. (However, children can come dressed as any character from any book by any author.)
Who do you fancy dressing up as? Will it be the Gruffalo or will it be Gangster Granny?
During the day, the Foundation Phase children will be walking to the local library for a story session and Key Stage 2 children will be taking part in activities in their classroom.
This year we have also decided to take part in a sponsored read in conjunction with Usbourne Books.
During the week beginning the 22nd of February all pupils will be asked to log how long they read for every day, for a week, and collect sponsors. On World Book Day we are hoping to announce how much money the children have raised. The money raised will be spent on group reading books for every classroom, topic books and more books for our reading scheme.
There will be a prize for the child who raises the most money in both key stages.
All reading logs and sponsor forms will be sent home in the next few days, so you can start collecting sponsors over half term. We very much appreciate your support and I'm looking forward to seeing how much money we can raise for new books for our classrooms.
Happy reading
Mrs Black
