Charity Events in November and December

Children in Need 2015

It is quickly approaching that time of year again when we dress up and collect money for an amazing cause.  This year's Children in Need Appeal is on Friday 13th November.

At Penygawsi we enjoy raising money for this worthy cause and are extremely excited for this year's event.  The School Council and I have been busy planning our school activities, including a whole school assembly which they will lead on the appeal day itself.

This year the School Council have decided we will all become sporting heroes and join many celebrities as they ramble for money!  We have decided to carry out a sponsored walk around our school grounds dressed in our finest fancy dress costumes.  This year we are allowing the children to choose their own costume but here are some suggestions for those who may like a little help:

• Something spotty
• Pyjamas
• Bear ears
• Super hero
• Animal

Each child in every class will be given a sponsor form this week.  We ask that friends and family will sponsor us to carry out our ramble.  The School Council are meeting on Monday to decide on the routes for each class and will announce the number of laps when they deliver the sponsorship forms.

If your child is in Nursery to Year 2 we ask that they bring their favourite bear with them on the day to take part in the sponsored ramble with us.  The children will then have a mini teddy bear's picnic at the end of their ramble where they can enjoy a drink and snack with their furry friends.

Throughout the day each class will  take part in activities linked to the appeal where they will can a better understanding of why we raise money for this special cause each year.  School Council will be busy preparing these activities with me this week.

 

Christmas Jumper Day 2015

As we will be supporting Christmas Jumper Day a few weeks later on Friday 18th December we will use some of the money raised from our sponsored ramble to go towards the Text Santa Appeal. This appeal works hard to support a range of amazing charities in the UK which include Macmillan, Save The Children and Make-a-Wish.  This means the children will not need to pay any more money to wear their Christmas outfits.  What a great way to end the term and put us in the Christmas spirit.  I look forward to seeing all your wonderful and wacky knitted creations.
