After half-term

Hope you are all enjoying a week off!

The colour for the first week back is blue. Once again, can I ask that items remain quite small so that we have enough room for everything that is brought in.

After half term we will be continuing with our theme 'Changes'. We will be looking mostly at how toys and in particular teddies have changed over the years. We will also be preparing for St David's Day. Activities will include:

Concept mapping - children will have old and new teddies and old and new toys. They will be encouraged to find the link between the objects. For example, the new teddy can be linked to the old teddy because they are both teddies. The old teddy can be linked to the old toy, because they are both old.

•               Circle time activity - after listening to the story 'Goldilocks and the three bears' the children will be encouraged to think about what is right and what is wrong. Should Goldilocks have entered the bears cottage without permission? Should she have eaten baby bears porridge? Why did she go into the cottage? Was she lost?

•               Sequencing pictures from the story 'Goldilocks and the three bears' and re-telling the story in their own words and then writing captions for the pictures.

•               After listening to the story 'We're going on a Bear Hunt', the children will go on a problem solving hunt for a bear themselves. For example one bear had lost two of his friends, if he found them how many bears would there be altogether? The bears have lost their shoes. If there are 3 bears, how many shoes do they need to find? How are we going to work out how many shoes we are looking for?

•               After listening to a variety of bear stories the children will be encouraged to create the texture of a furry bear on clay. They will be offered the use of a variety of utensils to create what they consider the best texture for a bear

•               Listen to lots of different bear stories

•               Collage a castle ready for the Art competition for St David's Day

•               Write their name as neatly as possible for the handwriting competition for St Davids day.
