Here are some ideas to support your home learning this week.
Task 1: Exploring rhyming words
This week, I'd like you to learn all about rhyming words.
Watch the video below: The alphablocks are having some fun with rhyming words. Can you hear all the words that rhyme?
- Sing some of your favourite Nursery rhymes together Can you spot the rhyming words? Sing the rhymes again but miss out the last rhyming word, can you fill in the missing word?
- Read a rhyming story Can you find a rhyming story? You will find lots in the Julia Donaldson collection. The Gruffalo is my favourite!
- Play a rhyming game with things from around the house
- Put some items on the table and the items that rhyme with them into a bag. Pull out one item at a time and find the rhyming item on the table.
- Line up 3 objects (2 that rhyme, 1 that doesn't) Can you find the odd one out.
- Practise rhyming with a ball Throw/roll a ball back and forth with someone in your family, saying a new rhyming word each time.
- Practise writing a list of rhyming words Look at the pattern when you write - you only change the first letter/sound and the rest of the sounds stay the same. Have a race with your family, who can write the most rhyming words? 1 point for each word.
- Twinkl have lots of great games and activities to practise rhyming. I have added some to our shared file on HWB.
- You could use the rhyming cards to make a bingo game or play snap/pairs.
Task 2: Who can help?
Recap the different people who help us that we began to look at last week. (You could use the flashcards to remind you). Talk more about their roles and how and when they can help us.
In our shared HWB file, I have put some matching games to play. These are also a great way to practise your cutting skills, by cutting them all out before you match.
Task 3: Exploring positional language
Task 4: 'People who help us' role play
- Use your favourite Teddy and a box. Can you put them in the different positions? Ask someone to move the Teddy, can you describe its position?
- Have a try at one of these (also shared in HWB):
We love role play in Reception, so this week, can you have some role play fun with your family at home?
Choose one or maybe more people who help us as your focus.
You could take on the role of a firefighter and run a fire station, become a doctor or nurse in the doctor's surgery/hospital or even a teacher and create your very own classroom!
Who will you be? What types of words might you use? Can you practise your writing in your role play? You could maybe write an incident report, a prescription, some patient details or a class register?
There's a great series on Cbeebies called 'Biggleton', which is made by children. It has lots of different episodes based around people who help us. Have a look and find your favourite.

Daily Mindful Challenge
It's great to see lots of you having a go at our mindfulness activities. Continue to use the ones we have already looked at every day.
Here is a new one for you to try this week:
Keeping Active
Gymnastics session 2
Cymraeg
Continue to practise the names of 2D shapes in Welsh.
Pa siap ydy hwn? What shape is this?
- Play shape eye-spy.
- Have a go at one of these 2D shape colourings. You can practise the names of the shapes and also the colours in Welsh too!
Well-being phone calls
I will be continuing to call families, but will be calling today (Monday) instead of Wednesday this week.
Remember, it's only a quick call to 'check in' and see how you are all doing. Lots of the children have joined in with the phone call too and it's been so lovely to speak to them (only if they want to!) I'm hoping by the end of next week, I will have spoken to everyone in our class. If you have changed your main contact numbers, please can you inform the office so we can update them?
Have a lovely week, keep an eye out for my story, which I will share via our class HWB file later this week.
Diolch
