Wythnos 3

Bore da Y Garth.

Once again, a big thank you for all of the lovely photos you uploaded to HWB last week. It's so great to see you all and all the fantastic work you are doing at home. Your stars are really adding up now : ) Every week, I am going to be choosing some children to receive an e-certificate for different things:
  1. Mega Maths
  2. Wicked Writing
  3. Wonderful Welsh
  4. Being Creative

There will also be a certificate for every 10 stars you collect. So if you already have 10 or above, please check you email inbox.

Task 1This week, I would like you to write a food diary, following a template like the one below.

  • Have a try to write the sounds you hear in each of the words (using the RWI chart above). You can also use the packaging to help you with the spelling.
  • Talk about the days of the week. Do you know them in order? Can you sing our days of the week song to your family? What day was it yesterday, today, tomorrow?
  • Can you put a tick next to any fruit or vegetables that you have each day? Count them.
Eat a rainbow challenge: This was Dylan Maund's great idea!
  • Can you try a new fruit or vegetable this week? Something you have never tried before. What do you think about it? Upload a photo to show us what you tried (and your thumbs) and you will earn a bonus star : )

As the children I'm sure will tell you, I love to sing songs and have a song for every occasion! In school, we always enjoy learning new songs that link with our topic. Have a listen to these and see if you can join in:

Task 2
I have seen some great number work over the past few weeks : ) Keep practising to count objects carefully, read, order and write your numbers correctly. Start up to 10, then move on to 20. You can practise these in lots of different ways both in and outdoors.

I have added a range of different worksheets and activities below. These are suggested activities, you dont have to do them all and can also adapt them how you wish. Choose which ones you think are most suitable for your child.

This week, we will be looking at measuring weight.

  • Use 2 objects which are significantly different in weight. Which one is heavier? lighter? How can we find out?
We would use a balance scale to explore weight in school. Click on the link below to see a simple way to make your own balance scale at home.

  • What will you weigh?
  • Can you weigh different fruit/vegetables? Estimate which you think will be the heaviest/lightest before you weigh them. Were you right?
  • Can you find 2 things that weigh the same? How do you know?
  • Write a sentence about what you found out e.g. the pumpkin was heavier than the orange.
Have a go at one of these worksheets:
Task 3

Knowledge & Understanding:  Sorting healthy foods

Talk about ways we can keep ourselves healthy and the importance of eating healthy foods (and drinks). Can you sort healthy foods? Either use real food and drinks from the cupboards, play food or alternatively you can use the pictures on the link below.

You can make this as simple as sorting 'healthy' and 'only as a treat', or extend to three groups (see below).

Sorting healthy foods

Task 4
Physical: Dough disco
Every week in school, the children join in with our dough disco sessions with Miss Key.

Dough disco is a fun activity which combines the use of play dough with a series of hand and finger exercises designed to improve fine muscle control. The movements develop children's fine and gross motor dexterity, hand-eye coordination and the children absolutely love them!
Here's just one example for you to have a go at:

If you don't have any dough at home, here is a very simple recipe that we use in school. You could make different colours and make some fruit and vegetables or characters from the Supertato story too.

Task 5
Creative/ICT:  Make your own Supertato or super veggie

Use a digital device (with help and permission from a grown up) to take some photos or record a little video of your Supertato doing different things around the house.

Cymraeg
This week, we will be learning about:

'dillad' clothes

Beth wyt ti'n gwisgo? What are you wearing?
Dw i'n gwisgo... I am wearing...

  • Practise the names of the different clothing and the phrases above.
  • Can you find these items in your wardrobe? Which ones would we wear in different seasons?
  • Have a race with your family. Call out an item of clothing in Welsh, who can find it and put it on the quickest?

I hope you all have a lovely week, I look forward to seeing more of your great work. Don't forget, we have a bank holiday on Friday, extra day off! Enjoy :)
