Hello everyone, welcome back (well sort of!) I hope you have all had a lovely Easter break with your families. It certainly was a different one this year, but I'm sure you still had lots of fun!
As lots of you know, I have two little boys who have been keeping me very busy indeed. I thought I would share a few photos of the things we have been enjoying together at home.
Easter celebrations
We had a very special visit from the Easter bunny. He left us lots of clues to follow and a trail of yummy chocolate eggs and bunnies. He was very kind and also left us a new face painting set. We have been asking for some very tricky characters and Mummy is practising her skills every day : )
Exploring the wonderful world around us #lovewhereyoulive
We have been going out for our daily exercise, exploring all the wonderful forests and streams close to our house. We just love being outside!
Let's get creative
We have been doing something creative every day; drawing, painting, cutting and sticking! We really loved making shadow pictures - using our favourite toys to make shadows and drawing around them.
Some of our other faves : )
Making 'birthday cakes' in the sand, sharing bedtime stories with each other and also our grandparents via Facetime. We have started to fill our own 'wish' jar where we write down our wishes (things we would like to do) when things go back normal again.

Language, Literacy & Communication / Saesneg
Reading - RWI phonics
Please continue to practise reading and writing your sounds and also spelling green and 'red' (tricky) words every day. Remember to use the phrases to help you form your letters correctly.
e.g. when we write 'a', we say 'around the apple, down the leaf'.
Ruth
Miskin is continuing to offer free daily RWI sound sessions via
YouTube. These sessions are great and cover everything we would do within our RWI phonics sessions in school.
They have also added spelling sessions and story/poetry time at
different times of the day, which are all aimed at children in the
Foundation Phase.

RWI: If you are working on speed sounds 1, have a go at the 'sound blending' and red 'ditty' books.
If you are working on speed sounds 2, try the green and purple books.
Easter News
On the first day back after the holidays, I always love to hear all about your news.
In your home-learning books, can you draw some pictures and write some words/sentences to tell me all about your Easter holiday? What did you do? Did the Easter bunny visit? What was your favourite thing and why?
Remember, when you write your words:
- Say each word slowly
- Write down the sounds you can hear.
- If you need to write a 'tricky' word, use the your word fish to help you spell it.
- Use a finger space between each word.
- When you have finished your sentence, put a full stop at the end.
You could ask a grown up to record you talking about your news and upload your video to your own personal file in HWB where I will be able to see it.
Mathematical Development / Mathemateg
Continue to practise counting in different ways:
- In 1s up to 20 and beyond. Don't forget to say 'teen' and 'ty'. Teach your parents how you use your 'cup of tea'.
- In 2s up to 10 and beyond.
- In 5s up to 100.
- In 10s up to 100.
Practise to recall doubles up to 10. If you need some help, use objects or your fingers to help you at the start.
Money
Have a look at the different coins that we have:
Start with 1p, 2p, 5p & 10p coins first. If your child can recognise them confidently, then look at the bigger coins.
- Talk about the coins - shape, size, colour, value.
- Practise using crayons to make rubbings of the coins.
- Hide the coins and go on a treasure hunt to find them.
- Can you sort the coins? How will you sort them?
- Set up your own shop - what will you sell? Teddies? Dolls? Action figures? Use post-it notes to label each toy with a price up to 10p.
- Play 'shop' with your family, taking turns to play the customer and shop keeper. Can you pay with the right coin/s?
- Write a reciept to show what they have bought and how much it cost. If you fancy a challenge, can you add the price of 2 items? What is the total? Can you write the addition sentence e.g. 5p+3p=8p
- Set up a daily 'snack shop'. Toby has been doing this at home, buying his snacks for the day. The healthy snacks are cheaper! Such a fab idea, thanks Toby : )
- Have a go at the coin games on Top Marks Money
Get active!
Joe Wicks is continuing to keep the nation fit with his PE workout sessions Monday-Friday at 9am.
If you wish to do something different, then you could have a go at Cosmic Kids Yoga.
There are a wide range of yoga videos to choose from that vary in
length and theme. You can choose whichever session you wish to try.
Under the sea
Unfortunately, we didn't have chance to complete our STEM project at the end of last term. Our plan was to create a paper mache model of a sea creature. During the topic, together with our new teams, we
researched and learned all about different sea creatures, then designed the creature our team chose to make. A lovely way for us to end the topic, would be to make your own sea creature. As circumstances have changed, you can now create any sea creature you would like, using ANY materials/resources that you have within your house.

Once you have made your sea creature, together with a grown up, use a digital device to take a photo of it and ask them to help you upload it to your HWB? What do you need to do to take a good photo?
Can you write about your sea creature?
- Write a list of the things you used.
- Was there anything you found tricky when making it?
- Is there anything you can do to make it better?
- Can you think of a name for your sea creature?
or
Record a short video to show me what you have made and tell me how you made it.

This term, we will be looking at 'Y Tywydd' (the weather) in Welsh.
Practise to ask the question:
Sut mae'r tywydd heddiw? What is the weather like today?
Mae hi'n heulog - It is sunny
Mae hi'n bwrw glaw - It is raining
Mae hi'n gymylog - It is cloudy
Mae hi'n wyntog - It is windy
Mae hi'n braf - It is fine

Mae hi'n niwlog - It is foggy
Read Dewi Dinosor 'Y Tywydd' (below) with a grown up. If you have an older brother or sister, maybe they could help you.
- Watch the daily weather forecast - what will the weather be like in Wales? Can you tell your family in Welsh?
- Make your own weather chart - recording the daily weather. You could also use this chart to help you practise the days of the week in Welsh.
Summer Term Topic
Our new theme for this term is 'Calon Lan' - 'a healthy/pure heart'. The main focus for this theme will be 'Health & Wellbeing' and 'Expressive Arts'.
In our school, 'pupil voice' is at the centre of our curriculum, and we always discuss and plan our topics together with the children, building our theme based upon their ideas.
We will not be able to have our usual discussions in class, but I would still love to know your ideas for our new topic. You could type and save them into j2e on your HWB or write them down on a piece of paper and upload a photo.
I would like to base our theme around the story 'Supertato'.
If you have the story in the house, read it together with your family.

There are lots of lovely things we could link with the story. Some of my ideas include - healthy eating, superheroes, Welsh heroes, people who help us.
We aim to end the topic with an 'end product', something we could design, create, make or perform. I look forward to hearing your ideas.
