Our Digital Leaders have organised a 'Sponsored Digital Detox' week to begin next week to raise money for ICT equipment in school.
Tomorrow they will present a special assembly to promote the event. We would like families to support us by helping to raise lots of money and supporting children at home to not use any electronic device or the internet for 5 days.
This means...
- No internet
- Games consoles
- Smart phones
- Social media
for 5 whole days!!
The children will be permitted to text and phone their friends to arrange to go out and do something that involves fresh air and good old fashioned fun and games.
The emotions and physical benefits of a digital detox are well researched and the poster opposite shows some of the positive things that disconnecting and reconnecting with others can do- click on the image to enlarge it.
What you can do to help...
- Ask your child for the sponsor form and promote the event with all your family and friends- There's a prize for the child who raises the most sponsorship (vouchers) and a class prize for the class who raises the most money too!
- Make a plan of activities with your child for the week of the digital detox. Ask them to create a timetable of activities so they can look forward to playing with things such as card games, board games, walks outdoors, colouring, painting and making, lego, sport etc.
- Encourage your child to keep a detox diary and bring it along to school so that they can discuss with their class teacher and the digital leaders what they have done and how the detox makes them feel.
- Encourage yourself and your family to join in with the digital detox too- could you go without the internet for 5 days?
In class the teachers will be supporting the event by having a class digital detox. No interactive whiteboards, chrome books or ICT for a week. We will have to plan our ICT lessons without using any equipment!!
We look forward to your support and hope that you will see the benefits of having a digital detox with your child.
Please let us know about the things you get up to. After the detox week is over we will have a show and tell week on twitter to celebrate all the things that you've been doing at home. You'll be able to share your thoughts, photos and experiences with us.
Many thanks,
Mrs James and Penygawsi Digital Leaders.
