Week 7 and 8.

This week we will a busy one again and it will encompass all the preparations for our Eisteddfod, Fair Trade day and World Book Day. 

The following week after half term we will be starting the work on our half termly STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) project. Loving where we live and taking care of all the mini beasts in our environment.

Here are some of the things we will be doing over the next two weeks (before and after half term).

Language, Literacy and Communication.

1. Handwriting formation: the letter c- curl around the caterpillar and a- around the apple and down the leaf.

2. Read Write Inc groups on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday's.

3. Using an illustration to inform writing- Welsh writing entry.

4. Copying a poem-Welsh handwriting entry.

5. Eisteddfod class piece- singing.

6. Compare features of fiction/non-fiction books based on bugs.

Welsh Language. Helpwr Heddiw daily and we begin Welsh Guided reading in Week 7 for one week.

Our school Eisteddfod is being held on Thursday 7th of March 2019. Welsh Costumes need to be worn on this day.

Mathematical and Numeracy.

1. Form the digit 16 sixteen/17 seventeen, understand its worth.

2. Pictograms of their favourite Welsh food- Eating bara brith/welsh cakes/Welsh rarebit and devising a pictogram to show our likes.

3. CLIC daily sessions

4. CLIC test.

5. Count legs of different mini beasts. Sort/ group according to number of legs.

6. SAFE Daily shape, amounts, fractions, explaining data work.

Expressive Arts:

1. The Hungry Caterpillar Dance.

2. Eisteddfod art entry- pictures of our local community based on the style of Welsh artist Martyn Evans. Martyn Evans. Welsh Artist

Health and Well-being.

1. Into the Garden of dreams- session 1. (Into the Garden of Dreams offers a range of enjoyable activities and games to help raise self-esteem and expression in the classroom. Through relaxation techniques and visualisations, pathways are traced into the 'Garden of Dreams' - an avenue into the imagination of children).

2. Fair trade day Tuesday 19th of February- Cooking with Fair trade chocolate donated by the Coop. We will be remoulding chocolate into flowers (daffodils).

Science and Technology.

1. What are bugs? What do they look like? DCF (Digital Competency Framework) – planning, sourcing searching. Research on hwb encyclopaedia.

2. Cooking Welsh rarebit. Naming healthy foods, changes in food when exposed to heat.

3. STEM Hook activities Friday 22nd of February. Looking at mini beasts in our playground/woodland area to begin our project.

St David's Day Costumes need to be worn on Friday 22nd of February also as Photos are being taken for the newspaper. 

IMPORTANT:

Please bring in a labelled change of clothing for our outdoor work on the same day-  for example: trousers, a top and a coat. We need the children to be suitably dressed and don't want them to damage their Welsh costumes as we have planned activities outside.

Home Learning for the next two weeks.

Please can you help your child to...Decorate a white pillow case to use for our Well being and stilling sessions for next term. Use felt pens to draw a garden, flowers, plants, animals and bugs. Place a piece of card inside the pillow case when drawing on it to ensure that it doesn't damage the back of the pillowcase or your table. Encourage your child to write their name on the front too. Remember it has to be the child's work please and can they bring their finished work in after half term.

Reading Books.

Please bring in reading books and diaries on Monday. We will keep these overnight and change their books at the beginning of the week from now on.
