Over the next two weeks we will focus mainly on Mathematics. Here are some of the things we will be doing.
Problem Solving:
Completing a variety of mathematical problems and working in collaboration with others. Our problem solving focus will be:
Sorting to more than 1 criterion- Sorting shells/pebbles on the beach problem.
Sharing- sharing the healthy foods in a packed lunch for a trip to sea problem.
Addition and subtraction- Beach car park problem.
Using the strategies of RUCSAC to work through a problem.
Other Mathematical Tasks:
Recalling halves and doubles up to 10 and recognise and understand odd and even numbers up to 20.
Odd number out game, halves and doubles song, half me and double me game.
Performing simple addition and subtraction using their preferred strategy and mentally recall one more and one less of a number within 10 and 20.
Number sentences work.
Copy, describe and extend extended patterns including shape and number.
Andy Goldsworthy environmental art work, extend the objects pattern, extend the even numbers/odd numbers game, extend the 2D/3D shape pattern.
Find halves in practical situations and recognise common regular 2D and 3D shapes, describing how they fit together in their play.
Make Pizzas and cut the tomatoes, pepperoni, cheese in half. Cut the pizza in half to eat it. I'm a shape, what shape am I? game, Enhanced tasks shape work, make a pirate ship, make a beach hut, make a pirate using 2D and 3D shapes.
Read and write numerals to 20. Number formation work,
Understand how to partition numbers below 20 into tens and units. show me a number game using Numicon, blocks, shells and then write the number down by partitioning it.
Recite numbers in simple sequences- 2's, 5's, 10's, to 100, including different starting points and order numbers to 20- Daily mental maths sessions- little big maths.
Use non standard units when measuring and use descriptive words when describing temperature.
How long is the whale, the beach, the ship? activity.
How hot/cold is the sea? describe the temperature of the water.
I hope you find this information useful. We will of course continue with our RWInc work and guided reading activities every day.
Mrs James.
