Pirate Play and Activities for week 2.

Pirate Problem Solving. We have started learning how to solve mathematical problems. 

 Knowledge and Understanding: What is waterproof? What does it mean?  Which materials are waterproof?

Do our coats keep out the rain? Are they waterproof? How do we know that they are waterproof?

Pirate Ship role play. It will be great if they let me finish making it! How much fun is this?

Language, Literacy and Communication Development.

Handwriting Focus overview:

Introduce pre cursive script family of letters. 

recap- y & z

Reintroduce the long ladder letters- l, i, j.

Entry line- get ready on the line and up the slide.

l-up the long leg, down the long leg. Tues

i- up the body, down the body and a dot for the head- Wed

j- up and down his body, under the line and a dot for his head- thurs

Carousel of handwriting activities-practice formation independently on whiteboards. Highlighted letter working with a teacher, following a frame working with a TA, hands on experiences with a TA- shaving foam/chunky pens/crayons/paints and formation in dough/sand

Begin to understand alliteration and use alliteration to make a pirate name. Use a capital letter for the names, cursive script and a full stop.

Mathematical Development.

Paying for items: LNF: use 1p, 2p, 5p and 10p coins to pay for items.

Be able to read and form the numbers 12/13/14 Hold a pencil with a dynamic grip, form the number with correct orientation and size.

Understand what a ‘problem’ is. Be able to share an amount equally.

Compose a piece of music in a group using body percussion.

Pirate movements: Learn additional six movements in order to add to a sequence of moves.

Enhanced Tasks are independent tasks that support what we have been learning.

Enhanced Tasks.

Writing Area: look in the pots and touch, feel and smell the items. Talk to a friend about what they look, feel and smell like. Draw a picture of the item and write down words to describe it.

Sand: find the coins in the sand and tell a friend/adult what treasure you have found. Draw the coin or do a rubbing of it in your book.

Water: the pirates ship is sinking and you need to fill 5 buckets of water full and empty it into the bowl.

Dough: free task.

Creative: draw a pirate ship using white board pens. Include 3 sails and 5 cannons on your ship.

Roleplay: Pirate ship. Free task.

Computers: Coin game. Sit with a friend and play the coin game.

Maths Area: count the pebbles on the beach and then order the pebbles correctly.

Reading Corner: free.

Construction: Build a pirate ship with 3D shapes. Draw a picture of it in your book. Tell an adult the names of the shapes you have used to make your ship.

Small World: tuff tray- tropical island- free

Welsh: NA (being constructed into an ice cream van)

Music/Dark Room: free task.

Fine Motor Control/Lightbox: make cursive letter in the sand. Write your name.
