Week 9 & 10 learning activities and tasks.

Here is some of our planned activities below for weeks 9 and 10.


Language, Literacy and Communication Development.




Story "Rumble in the Jungle" by Giles Andrea & David Wojtowyez
Characteristics of the book. Rhymes and Poems.

Guided Reading daily-please send in reading bags, books and diaries every day.

Handwriting Formation.
Week 9- Introduce pre cursive script family of letters. recap t, u, v Introduce w, b, h,
Entry line- get ready on the line and up the slide.
Recap-
t- up the tower, down the tower and across the tower.
u-Up, down and under and draw the puddle.
v-up the slide and down the wing and up the wing.
Introduce:
w- up down, up down up.
b- up to the top, down the laces to the heel and around the toes. 
h- up to the head, down the head, to his hooves and over his back.

Oracy
Understand different forms of online communication.  Talk about things from their experience and share information.  Use words, phrases and simple sentences. Speak audibly and at a greater length which includes detail.

Activity Look at the blog page and the Jonathan’s Jungle experience and discuss what they liked and disliked about it? Work in pairs and then expand to 3’s and 4’s to listen and question.



Understanding Rhyme.
Read Rumble in the Jungle, Be able to recognise rhyme in a story/poem. Continue a rhyming string. Extend a rhyming string.
In a group listen to the story Rumble in the Jungle, after each page identify rhyming words that are heard. Extend a rhyming string and write a sentence using one of the words. 

Look at the animals that we saw in Jonathan's Jungle and choose your favourite animal in the story. Say why you like the animal and tell a partner what the animal looks like.

Adjectives and animal descriptions.
Think of words that describe animals the animals we saw in Jonathan's Jungle. Use adjectives to write an animal description using finger spaces, capital letters and full stops. Write an extended animal description using cursive script and the characteristics of a sentence.







Mathematical Development.
Formation of numbers recap: 0,1,and  2
Formation of numbers recap: 3, 4 and 5.

Collecting data on our favourite wild animals and recording using tally marks.
Using the data to create a pictogram on a computer programme.

Understanding Length. Being able to compare lengths, order longest to shortest, measure using non standard units.

Animal food sorting- The animals have mixed up all their food (different types of pasta) sort the animal food with 1, 2, 3 criterion and explain reasons for doing so. 

Little Big Maths: ACLIC activities daily.
understanding zero means none. realising that teen numbers are one ten plus an amount in units. Knowing what half means and halving numbers up to 10.

Knowledge and Understanding Development.
ICT

Navigate 2 simple city zoo and use a mouse to place the animals in the zoo. Add themselves as illustrator and print out work.

Using a paint programme draw a wild animal, add themselves as the author.

Use a maths programme to create pictograms from data collected.

Geography.
Sorting animals from hot/cold countries. 


Creative Development.
Introduce the artist Henri Rousseau:



Create a pastiche of the Artists work, know something about the artist and critically analyse his work, stating what they like and dislike about the painting.
Look at the elements line when drawing an animal from observation.

Personal and Social Development/RE.
Why do we care for other people, animals and the environment? Circle time session  regarding: world happiness day, fair trade, sports relief and National Down Syndrome Day.

Physical Development.
Play to learn movement and shape. Moving over apparatus like wild animals linking 2 movements. Move around apparatus linking 2 movements.

Enhanced Tasks are independent tasks that support what we have been learning.
 Week 9/week 10
Writing Area: Draw a wild animal and colour it in.
Write the name of the animal underneath or a sentence about the animal with a capital letter, finger spaces and full stop.
Writing Area: look at the animal picture cards and write adjectives to describe the animal. Write a few sentences of animal description.
Sand: Find the animals in the sand, count them and order them in size.
Sand: Find the animals in the sand, compare and order them in size longest and shortest. Sort them into sorting hoops.

Dough: Roll a snake shape and make it 2 bricks long, 5 bricks long, 20 bricks long.
Dough: Roll a variety of snakes in length. Order them shortest to longest. Explain your work to an adult and how you measure them to check the length.

Creative: Paint a picture of a jungle. Dab the leaves with different colour green USING A VARIETY OF OBJECTS.
Creative: Look at the photograph. Explain to an adult what the animal looks like. Draw your favourite wild animal using pens and lines.

Computers: 2 simple city zoo. Navigate the programme using a mouse. Click and drag to make a zoo scene.

Maths Area: count the animals. Sort the animal food that’s mixed up.

Reading Corner: hold the book correctly and turn the pages to act like a reader.

Construction: make a jungle scene add 5 animals, 10 animals and 20 animals. Draw a picture in their playbook of their jungle scene.

Small World: go on a safari with the cars play with another child and make up an adventure.

Music/Dark Room: Make quiet tinkle noises with a friend. Make music for the dark.

Fine Motor Control/Lightbox: Pom Pom animal making. Wrap the wool around the cardboard, ask an adult to help you cut it and tie it.

Please ensure that your child brings in a reading bag every day. I have recently made changes to some of the groups and moved children around if you are wondering why your child might have mentioned this.
