Welcome back after half term. Week 7 and 8

Welcome back after half term. Thanks for the lovely enquiries and welcome I received from parents this morning on my return back to work. There are lots of nasty germs around and let's hope all this cold weather will get rid of them for good! It was lovely to see the children after their half term holiday and they were very excited to tell us all the things they have been doing.

Snack contribution is £10 for this term.

This half term experience is Jonathan's Jungle, Jonathan will be visiting us on March the 7th and he will bring along amazing creatures for us to view, hold and learn about. I have put a link to his website below.

Language, Literacy and Communication Development.

Story "The tiger who came to tea" by Judith Kerr.

Characteristics of the book. 

Read Write Inc sessions Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday Week 7

Week 8 Tuesday Wednesday and Friday.

Guided Reading daily-please send in reading bags, books and diaries every day.

Handwriting formation:  (long ladder): letters i, j, l, t, u v

Writing news about our Half Term Holiday- sentence structure: capital letters, full stops, finger spaces and full stops. Connectives and sentence openers first, second etc.

Watch Timmy episode, story board the story and sequence their own story board illustrations.

Wild animals Topic Mind Map for this half term: working in groups what do the children want to learn about wild animals?

Record ideas through mark making, sentences and pectoral representation. Use a digital device to present their ideas to the class. 

Mathematical Development.
Formation of numbers: 19 and 20.

1:1 correspondance counting: 0-5, 0-10, 0-20.

make Welsh cakes, estimate how many dough Welsh cakes will be made, count the pretend Welsh cakes.

Little Big Maths: ACLIC activities daily.

Knowledge and Understanding Development.

ICT

Navigate 2 simple city zoo and use a mouse to place the animals in the zoo. Add themselves as illustrator.

Using a paint programme draw a wild animal, add themselves as the author.

Animal food sorting- The animals have mixed up all their food (different types of pasta) sort the animal food with 1, 2, 3 criterion and explain reasons for doing so. 

Creative Development.

Story "Bramble and the Big Storm" by Benedict Blathwaiyt.

Characteristics of the book. 

Listening: Show that they have listened to others, Listen to and carry out a three step instruction.  e.g. by drawing a picture. Draw a picture of Bramble the cow by following the instructions from the teacher.

Personal and Social Development/RE.

Caring for animals circle time session. Why is it important to look after animal? What do animals need to stay healthy and well? Why should we look after the animals in the world. Use a digital device to present ideas and thoughts.

Healthy Eating. What foods do we need to eat to stay healthy? Was the Tiger thinking about his health in the story 'The Tiger who came to tea?'

Physical Development.
Play to learn movement and shape. Moving over apparatus like wild animals.

Attend our School Eisteddfod on Thursday March 1st and wear traditional Welsh costume. Enhanced Tasks. Creative Area Sand: Free task Water: Make tea and coffee for the Tiger who came to tea. Exploration Tray: Make a Jungle in the mud. Paint: Paint a picture of a wild animal. Malleable: Make animals for the Tiger who came to tea party. Dark Den: Free task. Computer Area:  2 Simple City Zoo navigate the Zoo Programme, week 1. week 2. make an wild animal on 2 paint and type your name. Construction Area:   Build a safari using lego and bricks, Make the animals to go in it. How many animals can live in it? Small World Area: Free Tasks Role Play Area:   Care for the animals in the Veterinary Practice. Maths Area:   Make animal patterns with the peg boards. Think of animals and their colours and then make a 3 step pattern and a 2 step repeated pattern. Order the tallest to shortest animals. Fine Motor Control Area/Light Box Area.  Complete the pom pom sheep. Writing Area:  Make an invitation for the Tiger who came to tea. Put it in an envelope and write your address on it. Library Area: Free Task Welsh Area:  Make Welsh cakes and fry them.
