What's on for the next two weeks?

We are so busy at the moment and the childrens' progress is amazing. I'm looking forward to seeing you all for our open evenings soon so you can see how much your child has learnt and developed since joining Y Garth class in September. We are all very proud of their attitude to learning and the hard work they put in every day.

I will post some photos over the next few weeks for you to see the standard of work being produced.

Over the next two weeks the children have planned their learning around our theme Chinese New Year.

After retelling the story in a narrative form as a story accompanied by their own illustrations they have decided that they would like to retell it verbally by making and using puppets and putting on a puppet show. I think that this is a great idea that will help to develop lots of skills across the curriculum in particular their verbal skills.
So with this in mind we are...

Creative
making the puppets for the Chinese New Year story. This will include, drawing, decorating, and going materials to create a puppet that can be used to retell the story.

Language
practising retelling a story verbally realising that there is a beginning, middle and end. Practise the skills of speaking clearly and at the right volume.

Maths
The story has a sequence using ordinal numbers so we must ensure that we know these as part of our performance for the puppet show.

Digital Competency.
Using technology to record our performance. Teaching the children how to use the iPad correctly to record each others puppet shows.

Other things going on this week are...
A big day on Tuesday as we participate in a whole school event. We are joining the global community and celebrating Safer Internet Day 2017. Our focus this year is 'The Power of an Image.'
We do this every year as part of our online safety campaign at school. The children need to bring a photograph of themselves that they like and one that would be considered suitable to share online. We will use the image as part of our focused task on Tuesday.

In a few weeks time we will be holding parent workshops and an information evening on 'Internet Safety' at school. If you are interested in this area and what we do at school regarding this subject then come along. More information will follow soon.

Trip Friday...
We are visiting the Chinese restaurant on Friday. For those of you who have not had a permission slip I have printed more and you can collect one on Monday. The cost of the trip is £8 and I'm sure the event will be a great experience. We do not need any parent helpers for this.

Cooking continues over the next two weeks too! Some children need to make their egg fried rice and the next meal we will learn to cook after that will be Chow Mein.

Programming
The children are really getting to grips with the bee bot app and positional language. We will be continuing our work on programming and following 3 step instructions to navigate the robot.

I have not issued any class home learning as a home learning task for the Eisteddfod Art entries was sent home in their bags last week.

Please continue to read with your children for 5 minutes every day, carry on with the yellow high frequency words and practise building up and sounding out other words.
