Safer Internet Day 2017. 

We had a very interesting Safer Internet Day on Tuesday. We began to learn how to use the Internet safely because we use it so often. It is very important that we start to know what it is and how to stay safe when we use it. This will enable us to grow up to be very sensible digital citizens.
 

We had a special assembly and was introduced to Smartie the Penguin. He's the mascot for using the Internet safely for foundation phase and the children love him. Smartie sits permanently in our computer area as a reminder to be safe online.

We learnt about positive image and the power of an image. 

We listened to the story of digiduck, and discussed it.

We identified ourselves in photos on the class blog page and looked for photos of our brothers or sisters on the other school blog pages. 

We learned that an image can be taken and put online. We wrote rules for putting photos on line. We did this in groups. We said it's important to...

• Always ask before you take a photo of someone. 
• As if they are happy for it to go on the internet. 
• Just put happy and nice photos of people on the Internet not to upset them. 
• Be careful not to put photos that have any information about you, for example where you live or school badges. 
• Don't put body photos online. We talked about being dressed properly for photos. 

We then talked about the photos that the children brought in of themselves, the context of the photos, why they liked/disliked them and whether they would be happy for these photos to go on the school blog for the rest of the world to see. 

The children participated in whole school activities where they had their photo taken in our school photo booth. They played guess the teacher where they had to identify teachers from childhood photographs. it was very difficult but great fun!

It was a great learning day.
