Spring Term Newsletter - Y Garth

WELCOME BACK

Welcome back!  We hope you have all had a lovely Christmas. We are looking forward to another busy term. Remember, we keep you regularly updated on our class blog (Y Garth), generally twice a week. Please check at the beginning of the week for a breakdown of the week ahead and if there is anything you need to bring into school, and at the end of the week to see what we have been up to and photos of us hard at work!  Please view the main page for school news. We also use Schoop to let you know of any important messages throughout the week. Please register with Schoop if you haven't already done so.

We will continue to offer a healthy morning and afternoon snack. A contribution of £2 a week is requested to cover the cost of snack and any cooking activities. This term is £22.  Children in the Foundation Phase have generous access to outdoor areas, so please make sure that your child has a coat in school every day and a pair of wellies that could be stored in school permanently.  Please label everything that your child brings to school with them eg PE kit, jumpers and wellies to minimise the risk of loss.

It is important that we are made aware of any allergies that your child may have, including reactions to food, milk, plasters, wet wipes, sun cream, playdough etc. We use homemade playdough consisting of food colouring or paint and plain flour.

Please encourage your child to keep their own toys at home as they can often be lost or broken in school.

THIS TERM’S THEME

This term our theme is ‘Mini Zoo’.  All our objectives and skills based learning will be undertaken under the umbrella of this theme, for example:

Creative – winter, spring, Easter and St David’s Day crafts,

ICT – using art packages, modelling and mouse control
Knowledge and Understanding –signs of winter and spring, plants, lifecycles and following a route.
Cultural Diversity – Chinese New Year, St David’s Day and Easter
Welsh – feelings, feeling ill and likes.
PSE – staying safe, looking after others (plants and animals), working together.

 

 

PE

PE is Monday and Wednesday.

This term we will be concentrating on Dance and developing locomotive and gross motor skills.  Please bring a white T-shirt, navy shorts or tracksuit bottoms.

PE Kits can be kept in school for the half term and can be sent home for the holidays.

 

HOW YOU CAN HELP US HELP YOUR CHILD

Please continue to practise the flash cards that are sent home. These are very important as many of the words cannot be built and need to be learned by sight so the children have a bank of known words before they have a reading book. Please also practise letter recognition using the Read Write Inc letters that come home. Each letter also includes a sentence to remind the children how to write it.  Please practise writing letters using the sentences.

Our class bear ‘Albert Le Blanc’ will continue to visit children on weekends. Please do not feel pressure to do anything different on that weekend, Albert enjoys playing at home, having lunch, going shopping as well as days out. If you have a special weekend coming up, let a member of staff know.

If you have any ‘crafty bits and pieces’ (eg buttons, ribbons, sequins, sweet wrappers, beads) we could use in our creative area, we would be very grateful.

Attendance

Our school target for attendance this year is 97%, please help us to achieve this by ensuring your child is in school when fit and well.
